SpiritVale Artifact Sets Guide: Relics, Gems, Scrolls & Runes

SpiritVale Info describes artifacts as four coordinated pieces in dedicated slots: Relic, Gem, Scroll, and Rune. Pieces with the same set name complete a set regardless of which of those four piece types they are.

Read every line on the tooltip

The community wiki documents Per Piece, Full Set, Per Refine, and Random Rolls on artifact tooltips. Full Set activates only when all four artifact slots contain the same named set.

Separate set identity from random rolls

The wiki says each piece has a random attribute roll and a random base-class skill-damage roll. Refinement improves the listed per-refine benefit but does not change the set name or piece type.

Farm with an explicit goal

Choose the full-set effect that fits the activity, then record the zone and version of any drop claim. SpiritVale Info says map groups have named artifact sets and that bosses and normal monsters in a zone can share a set with differing rates.
