Leveling Guide: EXP Routes and Ranks
SpiritVale's Early Access pacing has been adjusted several times, and the official patch notes now describe leveling far more concretely than the store page does. This guide collects only the numbers the developer has published — map-rank EXP multipliers, the over-level bonus, the 0.33.0 field drop rates, and the 0.34.0 party rules — so you can plan a route against the version you are actually playing.

What the official sources confirm
The Steam store page tells players to "Level up your character, find the best build for your class and enjoy the wonders of Nevaris", and states that core systems such as skill progression, class switching, and loot are fully functional in Early Access. It also lists seven base classes with skill trees and advanced specializations, 35+ maps across forest, desert, caves, and sanctum biomes, more than 230 monsters, and 20+ world bosses. What the store page does not publish is an EXP curve, a level cap, or a recommended character level per map. Those numbers only appear in patch notes, so they have to be read with the version attached and re-confirmed in your own client after an update.
Map rank is the largest published EXP multiplier
The official 0.32.0 notes introduced a ranked-map table and added map rank to the world map display. In that table S-tier maps apply a x3.00 EXP multiplier, A-tier x2.40, B-tier x1.90, C-tier x1.40, and D-tier x1.00, each paired with an equivalent increase to monster health and damage. The same notes name the tiers: S is Dark Fortress and Dark Manor, A is Forge, Night Garden, Warcamp and Turtle Nexus, B is Abyss Castle, and C covers Goblin Cave, Swamp, Forgotten Depths, Starfall and Demon's Maw. Because EXP rises faster than health, the notes also publish an EXP-versus-HP ratio, and by that measure the tiers are closer together than the raw multiplier suggests.
Fighting above your level pays a bonus
The 0.32.0 notes also added a rule for out-levelled content: monsters above your level give +2% EXP per level, capped at +30%. At the stated 2% per level, the cap is reached around 15 levels above your character. This bonus stacks on top of the map multiplier rather than replacing it, and the same notes pair ranked maps with a gold increase matching the health increase, so moving up a rank changes EXP and gold together. The practical reading is that the highest-EXP map is not automatically the fastest route once its health and damage multipliers are included — the ratio column exists precisely because raw EXP alone is misleading.
0.33.0 deliberately shifted value into field farming
The 0.33.0 notes state the intent plainly: "Buff up field farming as the game was too centered around Spire". Boxes of Mastery now drop from level 100 maps at 0.3% on S-tier maps including Dark Fortress and Dark Manor, 0.25% on A-tier (Night Garden, Warcamp, Forge, Nexus), 0.2% on Abyss, and 0.15% on C-tier maps such as Maw, Sunken and Starfall. The same patch multiplied essence drop rates by tier — x3 on S, x2.5 on A, x2 on B and x1.5 on C — and published worked examples, including Dark Fortress and Dark Manor moving from 0.1% to 0.3%, Abyss from 0.075% to 0.15%, Goblin Cave from 0.03% to 0.045%, and Sunny Meadows staying unchanged at 0.01%. Grimoire crafting was reduced from 25 Masterwork Cores to 20 in the same update.
Party EXP: Each Take versus Even Share
The 0.34.0 notes fixed and clarified the party bonus system, and the two modes behave very differently. Under Each Take there is no bonus and every member receives EXP and gold based on the damage they dealt to the monster. Under Even Share each member contributes +20% EXP and +10% gold and drops, and EXP and gold are shared evenly among party members across the whole map. For a leveling plan the distinction is decisive: a group that splits up to farm separately should not expect the shared bonus, while a coordinated group working one route can stack the even-share bonus on top of both the map multiplier and the over-level bonus.
0.34.0 and 0.34.1 changed PvP, not the PvE EXP path
PvP Conquest reduced the health scaling of ranked A-to-C maps — C from +25% to +15%, B from +50% to +30%, and A from +75% to +45% — while also cutting PvP damage by 82.5% and healing by 65%. The 0.34.1 follow-up raised PvP level scaling from 100 to 150, mainly affecting HP and MP, and disabled the Swift Intervention Grimoire in PvP. None of those entries changes the EXP rules above, but they do mean that surviving comfortably in the PvP channel is not evidence that the same setup clears the equivalent PvE map at rank.
A route you can re-check after every patch
Record the patch number next to every route you write down. Check the map rank on the world map before you commit to a session, note the character level you started from, and write down which of the three published EXP sources you are actually using — the map multiplier, the over-level bonus, or the party share. When a patch lands, only the entries that mention maps, EXP, or drops need re-testing, and you will be able to distinguish a real pacing change from an unlucky session. This page is updated whenever the developer publishes new map-rank, EXP, or drop-rate figures.
Frequently asked questions
Does SpiritVale give more EXP for fighting monsters above your level?
Yes. The official 0.32.0 notes state that monsters above your level give +2% EXP per level, capped at +30%.
Which SpiritVale maps give the most EXP?
In the official 0.32.0 ranked-map table, S-tier maps apply a x3.00 EXP multiplier. The same notes list Dark Fortress and Dark Manor as S tier, while Forge, Night Garden, Warcamp and Turtle Nexus sit in A tier at x2.40.
How is EXP shared in a SpiritVale party?
The 0.34.0 notes describe two modes. Each Take gives no bonus and pays each member by the damage they dealt to the monster, while Even Share adds +20% EXP and +10% gold and drops per member and shares EXP and gold evenly across the whole map.
