SpiritVale Threat System Guide: Party Aggro Explained
The official 0.16 rebalance announcement introduced a documented threat system. Monsters target the player in range with the most threat, and the party screen shows relative threat.

What creates threat
The announcement lists dealing damage, casting a targeted skill, casting near aggressive monsters, and using a threat-generating skill such as Taunt as ways to generate threat. This makes threat a party-wide coordination signal rather than a hidden assumption.
Use the party display
Before changing a build, watch the relative threat shown in the party interface during a repeatable encounter. Record the patch version and the activity so later balance changes do not invalidate your notes.
Plan around the pull
Assign a player to initiate, decide when damage begins, and agree where the group will regroup. The official note also says Spawner Bosses receive a 60-second no-KS protection for the spawner and party, cleared when the spawner leaves the map.
